Bariatric Surgery is Different to Weight Loss Medications
Results
While Weight Loss Medications can help you lose 10-15% of your bodyweight, Weight Loss Surgery typically results in 30-35% total body weight loss.
Nausea
Persistent nausea is a common side effect of Weight Loss Medications. Patients having Weight Loss Surgery seldom experience nausea after the first 1-2 weeks.
Long Term Success
Studies show that many patients who achieve significant weight loss with medications will find that most of the weight returns once the medication is stopped. The majority of Weight Loss Surgery patients achieve sustained weight control for many decades.
Long Term Cost
While the high upfront cost of Weight Loss Surgery can be a barrier for some patients, in the long run it costs less than injections. For patients with insurance cover, bariatric surgery costs the same as 18 months of a popular injectable medication.
Surgery Options
Sleeve Gastrectomy
Effective weight loss suitable for most people
Best safety profile
Gastric Bypass
More powerful metabolic effects
Better option for diabetes and higher weights

For patients with prior bariatric surgery
